Okkervil River is:
Will Sheff - vocals, guitar
Scott Brackett - trumpet, keyboards
Brian Cassidy - vocals, electric guitar, mandolin
Jonathan Meiburg - vocals, keyboards, accordion
Travis Nelsen - drums
Patrick Pestorius - bass
Seth Warren - electronics
The band was named after a short story by Russian author Tatyana Tolstaya, and after a real river in Saint Petersburg (from wikipedia). Okkervil River, despite the changing lineup, has been around since 1988. Since the very start, they have been releasing fantastic music: prone to murder ballads, they are part folk with a hand in traditional-sounding country (though by no means do they define themselves country in any way), part rock, and all inspiration. Their fame has been steadily growing, though the flurry of loving press after the release of Black Sheep Boy in 2005 reeled in an exceptionally large amount of fans.
Will and Jonathan also have a side project titled Shearwater, which often serves as an outlet for written songs that don't fit Okkervil River's style and sound.
Currently, Okkervil River has released three albums (a fourth is currently in production and should be released mid-2007), five EP's, two split albums, and a whole host of singles.
